I Think the Magic is the School:

Here’s what I have learned being a parent at Portland Forest School. Learning does not need to take place within four walls to be incredible. Students do not need to dread going to school to get a good education and a teacher/student relationship does not have to be difficult.

My son started Portland Forest School after a year of public school kindergarten and I am grateful every day that we found this school, and only wish we’d found it earlier. My son has grown so much from his first day - both in confidence and in his learning. His reading, writing and math skills have sky rocketed. He is challenged every day by the material but his teachers make him feel that he is capable of anything. They have instilled a confidence in him and created a support system that allows him to fly. The way subjects are taught speaks not only to students who learn via reading and listening (like most schools) but also via doing. My son comes home from a day in the woods talking about how great it was being outside, but also the new math equation they learned using nature materials. He doesn’t even think he’s learning, but he is slowly getting smarter. He says it’s by magic. I think the magic is the school. This is a true community and I am so proud to be a part of it.  - Parent (all pics below are from the Forest School)
